The Loved and Found range from Waitrose offers you the chance to try unusual grape varieties that would normally not be named in blended wines made of several grape types, but this time they are out there on their own. So do they stand up to be the star of the show? In this case yes. This red grape that’s normally used in Italian blends with Nero D’Avola comes out as tasting initially quite sharply of redcurrant then has a creamy pear and cheese finish. There’s also some spicy liquorice flavour with damson and cocoa. Youthful, fruity and spicy, this is a red wine that tastes a bit like Chianti and is best matched to sausage and mash.
