This French Tavel rosé is more of a light red in style and flavour than the usual vaguely strawberry tasting pink wines that dominate the rosé aisles. So it should have a lot of flavour. Unfortunately this 2022 vintage has the classic aroma and taste of ‘bottle stink’ – that is when the preservative used in nearly all wine, sulphite, dissolves into the wine at a greater than expected rate and results in a rubbery taste and smell. You can sometimes lessen this effect by swooshing the wine about but in this instance the wine was too tainted to be enjoyable. There was some apple and spice flavour but it wasn’t exciting. An expensive dud.
