Note this a review of the 2016 Gran Reserva. The 2014 is currently on sale at Sainsbury’s, Tesco and Morrisons, and although the taste will be similar it will not be exactly the same – could be better or it could be worse. The 2016 has deep fruity aromas and flavours of blackberry, plums and cherry with a sharpness of redcurrant running through. There is a balancing sweetness of toffee, and of a meatiness. This is a thoroughly nice wine but at almost £20 a bottle it is best saved for occasions that deserve it – like a Friday night cod and chips, which costs about as much these days.
