The BeLight tag refers to the lower than usual alcohol content of this wine, and also its calorie count. At just 8.5% alcohol and 65 calories per serving, this is also a wine with lower than usual expectations. The label information telling me of an ‘early harvest of grapes’ is code for picking the grapes at an under-ripe stage so there will be less sugar in them to turn to alcohol, and fewer calories, but the flavour will be sharper than expected – like with all under-ripe fruit. This passes through to the finished wine with some sharp flavours of lemon, lime and crisp apple – it is quite mouth-watering for sure. Drink this if you must but there are better wines out there, or you could just add a drop of water to your regular wine to get a similar result.
