Wines made with the Albarino grape variety are quite fashionable right now. But this one isn’t from Spain or New Zealand, no it’s from South America. Uruguay is located south of Brazil and Paraguay and borders Argentina to the west. Immigrants from Spain and Italy have shaped their wine industry and grapes grown. So its all familiar stuff but with a higher price tag as it comes a great distance to the UK and the smaller volume of wine made. This Tesco example is £13, which is expensive but then other Albarinos are priced similarly, for what is a light and fruity wine that has a taste similar to Prosecco without the bubbles. For cheaper wines that taste similar try Asda’s Lugana White and Co-op’s Orvieto.
