Fruity and smooth with a hint of spice, this is an enjoyable Australian Shiraz. Damson and blackcurrant flavours mix with milk chocolate then finishing with some redcurrant sharpness for balance. A nice mix of flavours – but how much of this is down to nature and how much from the winemaker’s ingredients cupboard? Take a look at the back label and you’ll see an ingredients list. Which is rather unusual on a bottle of wine with the Co-op being the only UK supermarket (so far) to show ingredients on their wines. Read this and you’ll spot a whole host of acids being added (ones found naturally in grapes but the wine must have needed a top up) and even some tannin – again found in grapes naturally but here again a top up was required. The result is a better flavour than if the wine had been bottled as is. Is this how you want your wine, or do you subscribe to the leave-it-alone group of wine drinkers? There is space for all types of wine and this one is tasty. Interestingly this is a 2018 vintage (so made in 2018) and was originally on sale at the Co-op in 2020 where it also scored 4-stars. So it's holding up well despite its age.
