Appassimento means this wine has been made with partially dried grapes. This concentrates the flavours in the resulting wine and it ends up tasting like a light after dinner port – for which you would pay twice as much. Cherry and blackberry flavours with some cherry yoghurt and black treacle to smooth things out in the mouth. Then there’s some cake spice flavour to add depth and oomph. There’s an awful lot going on here for just £7 a bottle. Worth the top 5* rating which is for an outstanding wine.
