At almost a £100 a bottle, this aged Italian Gavi is made with the Cortese white grape variety. The everyday version of Gavi wine made with this year's grapes sells in most supermarkets for around £10 a bottle and tastes crisp and nutty, perhaps with a peach and pear edge. This 2007 version tastes the same although the aroma is rather more sophisticated and is reminiscent of a good champagne with yeasty, white bread notes with a touch of toffee. But £100 quid? Seriously? Nice flavours but this is a ten pound wine in a hundred pound bottle.
