Pica Pica Sauvignon Blanc 250ml can review - WineUncorked: Wine Reviews and Tips

asda

I have tasted and reviewed 6 of the 8 new Pica Pica canned range from Asda (not the White Zinfandel or the White Wine Spritzer, but the Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier, Pinot Grigio Rosé, Rosé Wine Spritzer, Blackcurrant and Berry Wine Spritzer and the Elderflower, Lime and Mint Wine Spritzer). All are tasting either of cheap, dull wine in a can or just yuk – the wines are just about okay but the spritzers are best avoided. Which is a shame as Asda has gone all out to try attract a younger wine drinker into the wine aisles who thinks a drink in a can is cool but a bottle is so Facebook (you know, for old people). The Sauvignon Blanc has a named provenance and is from the Western Cape in South Africa. Flavours of apple, melon and celery with some bubblegum at the end. It could taste crisper – there are no classic gooseberry notes which would have improved things no end. Currently on offer with a buy 4 cans for 3, which brings the equivalent 75cl bottle price down to £5.58 from the full-price equivalent of £7.44, which is much more what the wine inside tastes like – cheap. Drinkable but a wasted opportunity by Asda.
