March 2022 WineUncorked Newsletter
It’s wine plus chocolate, tea and 1995 in the latest goings on at WineUncorked HQ.
Check out the comprehensive choice of wines that we’ll match to chocolate in the next online tasting event on Thursday 14th April. Bring along three of the wines and three types of choc and see whether it’s dark red wine for dark chocolate and white wine matching for Maltesers – or even Lambrusco for the pink coloured Smarties. There’s still time to book tickets at £14/household.
Tea makes an appearance (well listen) in Paul Kerensa’s history of radio podcast The British Broadcasting Century where I explain how my first forays into tasting events led to me being interviewed by BBC Radio 5 Live. This was in 1995 and the media thought it unusual that someone would run an evening class on tea tasting. Paul’s name might be familiar to you as he also writes comedy for the BBC (including Miranda and Spitting Image), does stand-up comedy and writes children’s books.
Back in the 1990s I was also making my own wine – not from grapes but from hedgerow fruits. These turned out to be particularly tasty and won me some trophies in wine making competitions. And country wine making, as it’s called, didn’t go away when Boots the Chemist stopped selling all the kit but it moved into specialist shops. Like KegThat.com, based up in the Wirral, for whom I’m now writing wine making blog posts. Check out Red please- but which one? where tea meets wine again.
